Pauley Perrette, actress, Abby from NCIS
From the hit NBC drama NCIS, actress Pauley Perrette talks about how her character on the show, Abby, uses computing skills.

“As Abby Sciuto on NCIS, I understand the vital role that computing plays in criminal investigations. I provide key evidence to the team of special agents that conducts criminal investigations involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps,” says Pauley Perrette who plays Abby on the acclaimed TV drama.
“My job is finding and analyzing digital data from crime scenes to solve some pretty high-profile cases. It’s really cool to play a character who knows how to apply computational thinking to solve real-life problems. I rely on computing tools like image processing, computer graphics, data mining, and machine learning to reveal patterns of evidence for detecting and decoding crimes.
“I think more kids need to learn these computer science skills so they can pursue rewarding careers like mine on the show. And schools need to teach courses that prepare kids for jobs like these – jobs that can help prevent and cure diseases, find sources of renewable energy, protect national security, and, of course, solve crimes! 5 of the 10 fastest growing jobs will be in computing-related fields.
“Do your part; on this site you can find videos, brochures, reports, posters, programs and ideas on how you can help raise awareness of this issue so more kids can learn to play a fulfilling role in solving real-life problems like Abby does on NCIS,” says Perrette.
